United Arab Emerites

Last Morning

‎We went to the beach this morning before checking out of our apartment. The area is really nice with lots of upscale restaurants, cafes, and stores. Along “The Walk”, as it’s called, they have these kiosks where you can take a photo of yourself and have it sent to your email. So we did.

Burj Khalifa Water Fountain

Here is the water fountain in front of the Burj Khalifa, timed to music.  It’s very similar to the fountain at the Belagio hotel in Vegas.

Desert BBQ

Last night we went on a 4×4 desert tour and BBQ. We went 4×4’ing among the sand dunes just outside the city. After we stopped by a small camel farm to see some young camels and finally our evening at a desert camp where they had some different activities set up where you could try riding a camel, Arabic coffee and shesha pipes, and sand boarding. Timbits Anyone?

‎We’ve seen a few Tim Hortons over here. One in Abu Dhabi and this one in Dubai Mall. We had a couple Timbits and they do taste the same.

Ski Dubai – Penguin Experience

This afternoon we decided to do the Penguin Experience at Ski Dubai inside the Mall of Emirates. We bought the up close and personal package which gave us a private tour behind the scenes of the penguin facility. There were 24 penguins in the enclosure and we had our own trainer take us into their home to see where they eat, sleep and play. Their area is a constant 5...

Burj Al Arab

Today we went to the Burj Al Arab building, well‎ beside it. You can’t go in without a reservation. So we went to the public beach beside it to get our photos. The beach was really hot so we ended up in the water up to our knees since we didn’t have swimsuits with us. The water was like bath water.    I’m falling behind in my posts. It’s...

Saadiyat – Abu Dhabi

Saadiyat is a new “city within a city” that Abu Dhabi is currently building. It’s one of the craziest developments I’ve ever seen. It’s going to include high end residences, businesses and cultural district.  ‎They are currently building Louvre Abu Dhabi which is to be ready in 2015 and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi which is to be ready in 2017...

What A Mosque!!

‎Our first stop in Abu Dhabi was the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Apparently it’s the only mosque on the UAE that allows non-Muslims to enter and tour. What an amazing building and grounds. This is probably the best thing we’ve seen so far on the trip. Because we arrived in shorts, we were required to wear the traditional “robe” so our legs...
