Aeromexico…Not Impressed

I was debating about whether to Include this or not but I’ve decided to share our challenges when trying to fly home. We got to the airport and went to the Aeromexico check in counter because their online check in kept giving me an error. After waiting 15 min we finally got to the counter. We handed over our passports and the 2nd part of our immigration forms we...

Final Photos of the City

Our quick trip to Mexico City has come to a close. After we left the church we came back to the Zócalo to see if the trade show was gone and I’m glad we did. The square was once again available for wandering around. We had about 45 minutes to take the our last shots before heading back to our apartment to pick up our stored luggage. Then it was a 30 minute Uber to...

Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe

One of our last places to visit on this trip is the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Unfortunately for me, there were a couple places called Our Lady of Guadalupe and I picked the wrong one for our Uber drive to take us. We ended up driving 30 minutes the wrong way. When we arrived we had to double check the address and get our driver to take us to the correct site...

Our Apartment

This was our Airbnb for the two nights in Mexico City. It was right downtown in the historical centre which made for a starting point each day. It has huge ceilings so it felt very big. And this Airbnb host provides some fruit, breakfast starters like bread, cereal, juice, milk and some snacks. There was even a bottle of tequila for us, which I thought was white wine...

Plaza de Garibaldi

After dinner we took an Uber to an outdoor square called Plaza de Garibaldi where many mariachi groups meet up to perform for people enjoying a night out. There were tons of police in the plaza as this area is not the best. However we didn’t feel unsafe and just kept a closer eye on our wallets and phones. In the plaza is a restaurant called La Cantina del Museo...

Villa Maria

For dinner we headed to a restaurant in the Polanco area of the city. Apparently this is the posh part of town. This restaurant is known for their mariachi bands that perform while you eat. I had some sort of white fish for dinner while Eduardo had chicken stuffed with fruit and nuts. Both were really good. I also splurged on the giant margarita but Eduardo has to...

Palace of Fine Arts

I forgot to mention yesterday that we went to Sears, that’s right Sears. On the 8th floor is a coffee shop with views to the Palaces de Bellas Artes. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is a prominent cultural center in Mexico City. It has hosted some of the most notable events in music, dance, theatre, opera and literature and has held important exhibitions of painting...

The Market

We had to change up the plan this morning. Eduardo hurt his foot before our trip began and it was really bugging him this morning so we cancelled our trip to the pyramids in exchange for more time to relax and give his foot a rest. Around noon we booked another Uber and went to a local craft market. It was pretty big with many many “streets” to walk through. There...

Lucha Libre!

No trip to Mexico City would be complete without a visit to a Mexican wrestling match. It’s very reminiscent of the WWF wrestling from years ago. They have these matches 2-3 times a week and based on the crowds in the arena, it’s followed by many fans. We had seats in the 7 row, just slightly left of centre ring. They turned out to be great seats because we could see...

Diego Rivera Murals

Inside one small building within the enormous National Palace is where Diego Rivera’s famous murals are on display. Admission is free to see these amazing paintings. Diego Rivera was a prominent Mexican painter who’s large frescoes helped establish the Mexican mural movement in Mexican art. Between 1922 and 1953, Rivera painted murals in Mexico City, San Francisco...
