Continuing our walk, we made our way to the outside of the Colosseum. This is another one of those surreal moments where you’re standing in front of one of the greatest monuments in the world that you learned about in grade 7 Social Studies.
It’s made of concrete and sand, was started in 72AD and completed in 80AD and is the largest amphitheater ever built. Used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles, it could hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators.
We didn’t include going inside with our guide but we’ll come back later in the day or tomorrow.
