Heading back to the main town of Fira, we stopped at the Venetian Castle. From the top of the castle, it gave speculate views of cliff side villages that line Santorini. This is also where we saw our first church with a blue roof. There are over 500 churches in Santorini, an island of only 15,000 people. We also saw our first Santorini vineyard up close. The grape vines stay low to the ground to take advantage of the moisture and humidity close to the earth. They do this so the vines never need to be watered since water on the island is very scarce, especially in the summer.
